Part of our Taxi transfers from Edinburgh Airport to popular destinations guide
Quick answer
Dundee is about 60 miles from Edinburgh Airport, roughly an hour by car or 80 to 90 minutes by direct coach. Stirling is about 40 minutes by car or around an hour by Citylink coach, which also serves the University of Stirling campus. A private transfer takes you and all your luggage straight to your accommodation.

Edinburgh Airport to Dundee
Two direct coach services link the airport and Dundee, and both are popular with students:
- FLY by Xplore Dundee leaves from Stance E and arrives on Union Street in Dundee in about 80 minutes. It runs roughly every 90 minutes, except in the small hours. Booking early is cheaper.
- Ember E1 takes about 90 minutes. You ride the tram from the airport to Ingliston Park and Ride and board there. Book online at least 10 minutes before departure, or the bus won't stop.
You can also travel into Edinburgh and take a train from Waverley to Dundee, which takes from about 1 hour 5 minutes on the faster services. That adds a change and a trip through a busy station with your luggage.
The University of Dundee puts a taxi from the airport at about £90 and suggests that splitting the fare between two or more students makes it good value. A pre-booked Dundee transfer gives you a fixed price before you fly.
Edinburgh Airport to Stirling
Stirling is one of the quickest university runs from the airport, about 40 minutes by road. By public transport you have three choices from outside the terminal:
- Citylink 909 from Stop D, which serves the University of Stirling campus, about an hour.
- Citylink 978 from Stop D to Stirling town, about an hour.
- Ember E4 from Stop E, hourly through the day and evening, continuing towards Fort William.
By rail, take the tram to Edinburgh Park and change for a train to Stirling. See our Stirling student transfer if you would rather go door to door.
Why many students choose a private transfer
- Luggage: a term's worth of bags fits in one car or minibus, with no lifting on and off coaches.
- Split the cost: the price is per car, so friends on the same flight can share it.
- Late flights: no worrying about the last coach. Your driver tracks your flight and waits 60 minutes free.
- Parents kept informed: parents can book and pay, and both get WhatsApp updates.
- Return discount: book your trip home for the holidays at the same time and save 10%.
Before you fly
- Check what time your accommodation accepts arrivals and collect keys.
- Save your accommodation's full address and postcode on your phone.
- Share your flight number with whoever is collecting you.
