Ski holidays from Edinburgh Airport 2026/27: routes, ski bags and getting to the airport

Updated · by the RTransfer team, local Edinburgh drivers

Part of our How to book your Edinburgh Airport transfer guide

Quick answer

For winter 2026/27, Jet2 flies from Edinburgh to six ski gateways: Geneva, Chambéry, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Turin and, from 26 December 2026, Verona. Flights start in mid-December. At the airport, check skis in at your airline desk, then take them to the oversized baggage drop in zone C or D. Book a car with room for ski bags, as they do not fit in most taxis' boots with suitcases.

Flying with skis or a snowboard

  • Book ski carriage when you book your flight. Airlines charge for skis or boards as a separate item (Jet2's ski carriage allowance is 22kg). It is usually cheaper online than at the airport.
  • Check in at your airline desk first. Edinburgh Airport says skis and boards up to 2300mm long then go to the oversized baggage drop in zone C or D.
  • Bigger items are checked in, then taken to the oversize baggage room in zone B for a hand search, which takes longer. Allow extra time.
  • Early flight? Edinburgh Airport's Twilight Bag Drop lets you drop bags, including skis, the evening before (where your airline offers it), then go straight to security in the morning.
  • Weight: standard limits for sports equipment at the airport run up to 32kg, but your airline's own limit is usually lower. Weigh your bag at home.

Getting to Edinburgh Airport with ski bags

Ski weekends mean Saturday and Sunday morning departures, often early. A ski bag is about 1.8 metres long and does not fit in most saloon cars together with suitcases. Book a vehicle with the right space:

  • Estate car: one or two people with skis and suitcases.
  • People carrier: families or groups of up to 6 with ski bags.
  • Minibus: larger groups and ski clubs.

Tell us how many ski or board bags you have when you book, and we send the right car. We run 24 hours a day, so a 4am pickup for a 7am flight is no problem. Book the return at the same time and save 10%; we track your flight home and wait 60 minutes free after landing.
