Skis, golf bags or a pram? Choosing the right car for your airport transfer

Updated · by the RTransfer team, local Edinburgh drivers

Part of our Edinburgh Airport transfer services and vehicles guide

Quick answer

Bulky items need the right vehicle. One or two travellers with skis or golf bags usually fit best in an estate car. Families with a pram or several large cases need a people carrier, and groups with golf bags or ski kit need a minibus. Tell us exactly what you are bringing when you book, and we will match the car.

Skis and snowboards

A ski bag is long and rarely fits in a saloon together with suitcases. An estate car takes skis with the rear seats partly folded for one or two travellers; families and groups need a people carrier or minibus. Flying out? Read our guide to ski holidays from Edinburgh Airport, or for Scottish resorts, skiing in Scotland from Edinburgh.

Golf bags

Golf bags are the classic Scottish airport puzzle: four golfers with four bags and four suitcases need a minibus, not a taxi. We run golf transfers to St Andrews, Carnoustie, Gleneagles and beyond.

Prams, buggies and car seats

Folded prams fit in most of our vehicles alongside a few cases, but families with lots of luggage are more comfortable in a people carrier. Child seats are free on request; give each child's age when you book.

Folding wheelchairs and mobility aids

Folding wheelchairs and walking frames can travel in the boot. Tell us when you book so we leave space and allow time for the driver to help. If you need to stay seated in your wheelchair, we have access to one or two wheelchair-accessible vehicles, bookable with at least 72 hours' notice. See accessible transport from Edinburgh Airport.

Lots of luggage, small group

Students moving in for term, people relocating and long holidays all mean more bags than people. Booking a bigger vehicle avoids a second car. See our fleet and the guide to our vehicles and services.

Frequently asked questions

Will golf clubs fit in a taxi from Edinburgh Airport?

One set usually fits in an estate car. For groups of golfers with bags and suitcases, book a minibus and tell us how many bags you have.

Can I bring skis in an airport transfer?

Yes. Mention skis or snowboards when you book; we send an estate car, people carrier or minibus with enough room.

Can you take a pram or folding wheelchair?

Yes, folded prams and folding wheelchairs travel in the boot. Tell us when you book so we leave space.
